About Our Thrift Stores
Loyal volunteers give of their time to sort, clean, price, repair, display and sell donated clothing, household goods, books, small appliances, furniture, fixtures and many, many more items. These items may be used, new, antique or vintage, but all the proceeds from their sale are used to help our brothers and sisters in need.
Although the items are priced in order to meet anyone's pocket book, there are many individuals who cannot afford them. The Society will make every effort to help those in need with the items our stores have on hand. To address larger needs, a Home Visitor will go to the home of a needy person make an assessment and then authorize assistance to supply furniture, appliances or other large household items.
THE PROFITS FROM THESE STORES PROVIDE THE SOCIETY WITH FUNDS TO ASSIST FAMILIES WITH FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WITH RENT, UTILITIES, MEDICAL EXPENSES AND MANY OTHER BASIC NEEDS. SVDP receives no government, United Way or Diocesan funding. The sale of merchandise in the stores helps offset the cost of assisting local people and families with basic needs.
